Delicious, mmm.

June 11, 2008

I finally got a del.icio.us account and have began transferring my bookmarks of ’stuff I find interesting and might want to re-look at in the future’ to it with tags and what not.

Upon signing up it the most blindingly obvious thing struck me like a lightning bolt. ‘Tagging’ isn’t brilliant because its like keywords to ‘tag’ content with, but it is brilliant because it creates these virtual ‘folders’ called whatever you want to categorise your content with. And you can cleanly (without duplicating content for different folders in the old sense) cross reference between these virtual folders (tags) easily. Its actually a brilliant way for finding stuff relevant to whatever you are searching quickly and then start looking at connected themes/topics. I understand the point of the labels in gmail now, brilliant!

Anywho:

P.S. embedding stuff in WordPress seems absolutely shocking, it wouldn’t let me embed that video from a few blogs back, and it won’t let me (easily) show my del.icio.us “network badge”. Where’s the intertextuality?

The Year is (almost) Over.

June 10, 2008

So, presentation finally done after a tiny delay. And that kind of marks the end of the year for most of us, despite the ever-impending PDP essay deadline.

Anyone else notice how many people have been blogging since the end of May, got a certain essay on your mind, eh?

So, um, yeah, end of the year, wahey. BUT I still need to find a work placement and write my PDP, I think the bad weather (well, bloody amazing weather but bad for me and Doing Work) scuppered any good intentions I had on returning to Bournemouth after Easter or whenever I last went home.

The problem is that I really want to get work in an agency because it would undoubtedly give me the most benefit in terms of professional development but I really seem to be in a bind because if I can’t find somewhere in Bournemouth or nearby I will have to return to Essex and try and get something in London – where the financial burden of commuting via train for six weeks will undoubtedly cripple me. Still, waiting for a few return emails (I suppose ringing and hassling is a good idea!) before I try and go down another route.

How am I meant to write accurately and reflexively about getting a work placement in my PDP essay if I haven’t found a work placement? Argh.

I like how I’m writing about this on a blog, linked to from my portfolio, that I am going to give out to potential work placement people. Smart move, Dan.
