Until today I have, apparently, not looked at or wrote on my blog since December so I guess there should be alot of catching up to do.
This first project on Spatial Interaction is actually brilliant. I think so, anyway. It seems to be pushing our learning more into the direction the name of the course would suggest and makes me think about (and, geekily, get excited about) what’s next in terms of projects/learning.
As far as ideas for the project go, I got stuck on one idea that I really didn’t want to do but have finally overcome that idea and thought of something (by accident) infinitely better. Hopefully I can achieve it in the time I have left. The idea I was stuck on was, initially, going to be called “Look What I Found” and be a site aimed at students (*yawn* Criticism #1 making a site where I would be the target audience, is a bit lazy) where they upload tall tales and photos of things they ‘acquire’ on their way home from nights out or elsewhere. I was toying with the idea of maybe trying to implement a Googlemap API so they could also put whereabout they found what they did.
I figured it could be quite a fun thing to read and contribute to but didn’t want to do it because it could all go wrong if it turned competitive with oneupmanship and I wouldn’t really want people doing stupid things or actually going out to steal stuff. It made me think of other morally questionable site ideas I could use.
Roadkill Locator – googlemap API, upload photos of roadkill to their location. Will students start aiming their cars at dogs and small children for the glory on Roadkill Locator? Ha…
Background Hot Or Not – Upload your own personal photos, highlight someone in the background of the photo and let other people rate them as Hot, or, Not. Kind of adding another level of voyeurism to hot or not, and ripping off facebook at the same time.
I eventually came to an idea that doesn’t make me look like A Mental Person and found some stumbling blocks which were, essentially, me trying to overcomplicate things and make something far beyond the scope of this project but as far as I know I’ve ironed them out and pretty much figured out how to do everything I need to do. At least, I think I have. This new idea identifies with the idea of collaborative authorship in a really simple and, hopefully, fun way – at least that’s what I’m telling myself.
I’ll post the basis of my idea up when I’ve got something to actually show for it.
Three weeks, eek.
